Corporate Responsibility Governance
We have a clear governance structure to manage our corporate responsibility activities and we listen to stakeholders to help us identify our priorities.
MANAGING CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY
Our Corporate Responsibility Council (CRC) is made up of executive and senior leadership and guides the implementation of our corporate responsibility strategy and commitments. The Council is aligned with Board-approved strategic goals, which include enhancing the corporate responsibility efforts of the company.
The Corporate Responsibility Director sits within the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)/Global Operations Function, providing a global operations network of support and business integration.
Three sub-committees—the Environmental Committee, Grant-making Committee and the Community Engagement Ambassador Network—are responsible for driving progress in key areas. They help to embed corporate responsibility deeper into the business and align the agenda with our strategic corporate goals.
LISTENING TO STAKEHOLDERS
We regularly engage with stakeholders within and outside our organization to keep us close to the issues we need to prioritize. These stakeholders include our customers, suppliers, employees, investors, non-governmental organizations and policymakers.
Listening to our stakeholders helped us identify four strategic focus areas for our business to fulfil our mission to help people live better, healthier lives. For example, our colleagues from the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI) provided ideas and feedback on how to organize our Environment Sub-Committee. In 2017, we will use input from stakeholders to help us further define materiality and refine our corporate responsibility strategy.
We also use the principles of the international ISO 26000 standard on social responsibility to inform our corporate responsibility strategy and communications to ensure we meet stakeholder expectations on specific issues that are material to our business.
Finally, we address corporate responsibility issues by participating in organizations, such as:
- Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative
- Pharma and Biopharma Outsourcing Association
- Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship
- Carbon Disclosure Project
- IAPC International Audit Protocol Consortium
- CECP The CEO Force for Good
