Flexible Filling and Ready-to-Use Adoption in Biologics – Journey and Lessons Learned
Presentation Date: Wednesday, September 18, 10:45am – 11:30am
Speaker: Alex Haig, Senior Director, Engineering
Abstract: Seeing a shift in industry to extend the ready-to-use (RTU) platform and new capabilities for filling flexibility, Catalent combined the activities of what would traditionally be three filling lines into one line under barrier isolation in one filling suite. The project was a complex manufacturing upgrade, within an existing operation, to complement existing syringe and vial lines with first-of-its-kind flexible filling technology. The project is an exceptional example of a company helping to lead industry in the adoption of ready-to-use vials/cartridges and applying next generation robotics technology uniquely to create unparalleled flexibility. Catalent’s version of flexible filling would not only add additional capacity, but enable better service to its customers through that flexibility to benefit patients.
Catalent’s execution of the flexible filling line project demonstrates a unique and bold vision. The collaborative project not only achieves exceptional capability for Catalent, but also progresses two important trends in the pharmaceutical industry: flexibility in advanced aseptic manufacturing and increased availability of ready-to-use components.
In this presentation, you will see exceptional examples of leading the industry with innovation in applying state of the art technology. Important design elements that will help define capabilities for facility of the future concepts.
Significant and market-changing technological and supply chain innovations, made possible by the RTU primary packaging components.
