Catalent Appoints Two New Vice Presidents of Quality
Somerset, NJ, March 23, 2010 — Catalent Pharma Solutions, Inc. announced the appointments of Lois Johnson to the position of Vice President of Quality, Development and Clinical Services, and Alex Eslava as Vice President of Quality, Sterile Technologies. Ms. Johnson and Dr. Eslava will be based in Somerset, NJ.
Ms. Johnson is a Quality professional with more than 20 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical/biotech industry, and has worked in both commercial and R&D areas during her career. Prior to joining Catalent, Ms. Johnson was Senior Director of Quality Assurance-North America for Aptuit, Inc. There, she led a team that managed all quality and regulatory activities and processes, from product conception through commercial manufacture. Prior to Aptuit, Ms. Johnson held Quality leadership positions at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Aventis Behring Corporation, Centeon and Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (both formerly part of Armour Pharmaceutical), and Armour Pharmaceutical.
Ms. Johnson holds a Master of Product Development from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Biology from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Eslava joins Catalent from Wyeth, where he was Assistant Vice President and Quality Head for the company’s Biotechnology area. In that role, he directed an organization of 300 employees and was responsible for the chemical/biochemical and microbiology laboratories; in-process and final production inspections; quality engineering; supplier evaluations; internal and external audits; and product releases. Prior to that position, Dr. Eslava was Assistant Vice President of quality for Wyeth’s Latin America business. Before joining Wyeth, he was Director of Quality for AMGEN in Puerto Rico. Earlier in his career, Dr. Eslava held several Quality leadership positions with Baxter Healthcare at their Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Illinois facilities.
Dr. Eslava holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry and Master of Science degree in Physical Chemistry, both from Princeton University. He has a B.S. in Chemistry from Louisiana State University. He also did a post-doctoral Fellowship at The Hebrew University in Israel.
