Catalent's New Digital Offset Press Reduces Lead Times for Printed Components

Date: 08/31/2009

Somerset, NJ, August 31, 2009 — Catalent Pharma Solutions, one of the leading providers of advanced technologies and outsourced services to the global pharmaceutical, biotechnology and consumer health industry, announces the addition of Catalent’s newest digital sheet-fed offset press at its Printed Components Moorestown, New Jersey location. The 74 Karat® digital press from KBA is ideal for volumes from 100 to 10,000 unit range. This complements Catalent’s high speed offset capabilities and is well suited to support medical device and diagnostic packaging, pilot projects and international work that require smaller runs or flexible mix. Utilizing four-color process printing, the press can provide folding cartons, DFUs and promotional materials.

“Pharmaceutical and medical printing requirements have changed significantly over the past few years. While print quality and supply assurance remain paramount, our customers expect more today—improved supply chain efficiency and an overall better value proposition” explains Brian McCarthy, Vice President Business Development of Catalent’s Printed Components business. “The 74 Karat digital press enables Catalent to produce low to mid volume work more quickly and efficiently than traditional offset and flexo printing presses. And, when combined with our new eVMI inventory management program, we bring our customers creative supply solutions not available from any other provider.”

The 74 Karat digital press is supported by Catalent’s highly experienced in-house product development and digital pre-press team. The team provides same day color-accurate digital proofs, electronic proofing and computer-to-plate technology.
