Annual Competition Recognizes Talent In Graduate Pharmaceutical Programs

SOMERSET, N.J., June 11, 2014 – The Catalent Applied Drug Delivery Institute and American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), today announced the winners of their “Global Academic Competition for Life Science Leaders of Tomorrow.” Chosen from leading U.S. and International universities with graduate programs in pharmaceutical science, the five winners were:

  • Maren Preis, University of Dusseldorf, “Regulatory Challenges & Available Dosage Forms”;
  • Prachi Shah,  St. Johns University, “Double Emulsions: Scope and Attempts”;
  • Nilesh Gupta, Texas Tech University, “Challenges in Developing Inhalation Technology: Right Particle Size and Device Selection”;
  • Tannaz Ramezanli, Rutgers University, “Stem Cells as Novel Carriers for Cancer Therapy”;
  • Emrah Ilker Ozay, UMass Amherst, “Slipping through the blood brain barrier with cell penetrating peptide mimics”

Each will receive a cash prize of $2,000 and annual membership to the AAPS.

The annual competition aims to identify emerging scientific talent, foster drug delivery education and reward academic excellence and competition entries consisted of original review articles addressing topics such as drug development, delivery technologies, improving therapeutic profiles and bioavailability, pre-formulation, and pediatric drugs. The academic competition reflects the Institute’s commitment to fostering education, collaboration and adoption of drug delivery technologies to develop better treatments for patients.

“The Catalent Institute looks forward to sharing the winning review articles submitted by the five winners from this year’s global academic competition,” said Terry Robinson, Executive Director of the Catalent Applied Drug Delivery Institute. “Expanding the drug delivery toolbox of pharmaceutical scientists to inspire the adoption and innovation of drug delivery technologies is a primary focus of our institute.
