Catalent Wins Scottish Engineering Vice President Award for Excellence

SOMERSET, N.J. – October 1, 2020— Catalent, a global leader in clinical supply services, has announced that its clinical supply site in Bathgate, West Lothian has won Scottish Engineering’s ‘Vice President Award 2020,’ recognising its continuous improvement programme in core values including “patient first, customer dedication, people, innovation, integrity and excellence.”

The award was presented to Catalent’s General Manager of the Bathgate facility, Dianne Coughlan, at an official ceremony at Scottish Engineering’s Glasgow headquarters on Sept. 18.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Coughlan commented, “We are delighted to receive this award from Scottish Engineering, which assesses key performance indicators in areas including safety, quality, delivery and costs.” She added, “Our Bathgate facility plays a key role in Catalent’s global Clinical Supply Services network and we are proud of the work we do in helping to bring important new medicines to patients.”

Paul Sheerin, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering commented, “All of our Award winners have displayed resilience, innovation and a willingness to embrace change to drive their business forward, but Catalent also stood out for their use of lean and agile approaches to continuous improvement to meet their ‘patient first’ mindset.”

Primarily involved in the production, packaging, storage and global distribution of patient kits for clinical trials, the 141,000-square-foot (13,100-sq.-metre) Bathgate facility’s current workforce exceeds 200, a headcount that has grown significantly over the last few years.

Customers of Catalent’s Bathgate site include large, global pharmaceutical organisations, as well as smaller Scottish companies that make up one of Europe’s largest life science clusters.

The Bathgate site was originally purpose-built as a clinical packaging and logistics facility and was officially opened by Quintiles in Sept 1997, and since then it has expanded significantly to meet customer needs prior to becoming part of the Catalent network in 2007.
