Evolving to a More Efficient and Lean Clinical Trial Supply Model

Somerset, N.J. – January 14, 2016 — Catalent Pharma Solutions, the leading global provider of advanced delivery technologies and development solutions for drugs, biologics and consumer health products, and a leader in global clinical supply services, today announced that Ms. Dianne Coughlan, Global Director, Supply Chain Effectiveness, will be presenting at the upcoming Clinical Trials Supply Europe Conference, to be held at the Husa President Park, Brussels, Belgium, on January 19th – 21st, 2016.

Ms. Coughlan’s presentation, on Wednesday, January 20th at 1.30 p.m., is entitled “Lean and Regional: A Novel Approach to Improving Supply Chain Efficiency in Global Studies”, and will discuss how the traditional supply-led approach to clinical trials presents challenges including long lead times, and inflexibility when study plans change. These factors can potentially lead to inventory issues and can compromise the trial, and even put patients at risk through stock-outs. Ms. Coughlan will go on to introduce and explain the benefits of a demand-led supply model, which decouples primary packaging from secondary packaging and labelling activities, allowing the final stages to take place at regional or country levels, thereby reducing lead times and optimizing inventory management.

Ms. Coughlan joined Catalent in 2007 and is based at the company’s Bathgate facility near Edinburgh, Scotland. Her responsibilities include leading the development of standard supply chain tools that drive effectiveness in planning, Materials Requirements Planning (MRP), and logistics. Her role also includes the deployment of a common system template, improved processes and advanced technology to drive continuous improvement in planning, scheduling, purchasing and supply chain logistics. Ms. Coughlan holds a Diploma in Business Management from The University of West Scotland and is a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma.
